1960 The Kingston Trio Show, to be aired six days a week at various times, debuts on CBS Radio. The five minute show is sponsored by 7-Up.

1961 Pat Boone went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Moody River', the single reached No.18 in the UK.

1964 Touring Australia for the first and only time The Beatles played a second night at Sydney Stadium in Sydney.

1965 Appearing at Uxbridge Blues Festival, England, The Who, Manfred Mann, Long John Baldry, The Birds, Solomon Burke, Zoot Money and Marianne Faithfull.

1965 The Four Tops went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'I Can't Help Myself', a No. 23 hit in the UK.

1967 During an interview with Life Magazine Paul McCartney admitted that he had taken the drug LSD.

1971 Carole King started a five week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'It's Too Late / I Feel The Earth Move'. Both songs were from the album 'Tapestry', which also topped the US charts on this day.

1968 The Rolling Stones had their seventh UK No.1 single with 'Jumpin' Jack Flash'.

1973 The stage production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" opens in London. Tim Curry later reprises his role in the 1975 movie version.

1974 The Delinquents a band featuring Mick Jones (later of The Clash) made their debut at the Students union bar, Queen Elizabeth College, Kensington.

1976 Blue Oyster Cult released the album, "Agents of Fortune", which yields the hit single, "Don't Fear the Reaper".

1976 Wild Cherry releases "Play That Funky Music," a song that would make it to #1.

1976 Future Smiths singer Steve Morrissey had a letter published in this weeks music magazine Record Mirror and Disc asking the editor why they paper had not included any stories on The *** Pistols.

1977 Appearing at The Rainbow, London, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers supported by The Boomtown Rats.

1977 Six men wielding knives and iron bars outside Shepherd's Bush underground station beat up Paul Cook from The *** Pistols. Cook required 15 stitches to a head wound.

1978 The Rolling Stones played the Palladium, in New York City during their summer tour of North America.

1980 Donna Summer became the first act to sign with Geffen Records, the new label started by David Geffen.

1982 The debut album by the supergroup Asia, entitled simply "Asia" hits #1.

1982 Steve Miller begins his first tour in three years in Lake Tahoe to support his current LP "Abracadabra".

1982 Culture Club appeared at the recently opened Hacienda Club in Manchester, England.

1987 Guns N' Roses made their UK live debut at the Marquee Club, London.

1988 Over 3,000 East Germans gathered at the Berlin Wall to hear Michael Jackson. Jackson was performing a concert on the other side of the wall in West Berlin.

1990 Prince started a twelve night sold out run at London's Wembley Arena.

1992 The 'Greenpeace Stop Sellafield', campaign concert took place at G-Mex in Manchester, England with U2, Big Audio Dynamite II, Public Enemy and Kraftwerk.

1993 Tina Turner went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'What's Love Got To Do With It'.

1998 Loretta Lynn appeared on the Friday Night Opry.

2000 Eminem was to be immortalised in animation, with a new cartoon series, which would be hosted on a new web site. 26 weekly 'webisodes' would be broadcast on the site, featuring Eminem providing all the voices.

2003 G-Man from So Solid Crew was jailed for four years for possessing a loaded handgun. The 24 year-old, real name Jason Phillips, dumped a loaded gun during a police chase in London last November. He'd always denied it, as well as denying knowing anything about 11 other bullets that were found in a flat in south London. The jury in London's Southwark Crown Court heard evidence that DNA found on the weapon matched his, and found him guilty.

2007 Darren Hayes, formerly of Australian pop duo Savage Garden, married his boyfriend Richard Cullen in a civil partnership ceremony in London. Hayes was previously married to make-up artist Colby Taylor between 1997 and 1999.
