Geldof was the driving force behind the Band Aid relief project after seeing a BBC news report on the famine in Ethiopia. He called Midge Ure from Ultravox, and together they co-wrote the song, 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' Co-founded Planet 24, a television production company that has made such programs as The Big Breakfast, The Word and Survivor.

2007 Isaac Hanson from US pop band Hanson had surgery to remove a blood clot from his lungs after being diagnosed with a potentially fatal condition. The guitarist who had developed Paget-Schroetter Syndrome was expected to make a full and speedy recovery.
