1943 Paul Atkinson, lead guitarist with the Zombies, born.

1946 Ruth Pointer, The Pointer Sisters, (1981 US No.2 single, 'Slow Hand', 1984 UK No.2 single 'Automatic').

1953 Ricky Wilson of the B-52's born.
1953 Billy Sheehan, bass guitarist, Mr. Big, (1992 US No.1 & UK No.3 single 'To Be With You'). Also worked with Steve Vai and David Lee Roth.

1955 Derek Longmuir, drummer for the Bay City Rollers, born in Edinburgh.

1959 Terry Hall of the Specials born.

1976 Gary Thain bass player with Uriah Heep died of a drug overdose aged 28.

1976 guitarist Paul Kossoff, ex of Free and Back Street Crawler, died of heart failure on a flight from Los Angeles to New York, after a long history of drug abuse.

1982 Randy Rhoads, the 25-year-old guitarist with Ozzy Osbourne, is killed in a Light plane crash in Florida

1993 Drummer Jeff Ward was found dead in his home in Chicago. It was believed he had committed suicide.

1957 Elvis Presely buys the mansion Graceland from Mrs. Ruth Brown-Moore.

1958 "Our Song" was released by Tom and Jerry. Later they used their real names, which were Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.

1964 UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson presented The Beatles with their awards for show business personalities of the year for 1963 at London's Dorchester Hotel.

1965 the Tailor And Cutter Magazine ran an article asking The Rolling Stones to start wearing ties. The current fashion did not include wearing ties with shirts and many tie-makers were facing financial disaster.

1966 Gary Leeds (Walker Brothers) was abducted by British students trying to raise money for charity.

1968 The Bee Gees made their US television debut when they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show

1980 The autopsy of Elvis Presley was subpoenaed in the "Dr. Nick" drug case. "Dr. Nick" was Dr. George Nichopoulous who was Presley's personal physician.

1981 The J Geils Band were at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Centrefold', Roxy Music had the UK No.1 single with 'Jealous Guy.'

1982 Randy Rhoads died at the age of 25 in a plane crash. The plane was buzzing Ozzy Osbourne's tour bus when it crashed. The pilot and another female passenger were also killed.

1985 "Spin Magazine" began publishing.

1988 When the Cult announces they're movin' to LA, drummer Les Warner quits.

1990 Everything But The Girl appearing at The Dome, Brighton.

1992 Jet Harris from The Shadows was banned from driving for three years and fined ?120 for drunk driving.

1994 Doop were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Doop.'

1995 Bruce Springsteen started a two week run at No.1 on the US album chart with his 'Greatest Hits.'

1995 At a Pearl Jam concert in Melbourne, 35,000 fans attend a show seating 13,000.

1996 The second part of the Beatles "Anthology" was released.

1999 George Jones left the hospital after being severely injured in a car accident on March 6, 1999.

2001 Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell's London home was broken into. The intruder left obscene notes on the walls, stole the singer's computer and Hi Fi and had thrown milk and Ribena fruit drink on the walls. They also stole a necklace that used to belong to actress Liz Taylor.

2002 Ozzy Osbourne, and his family, did an interview with CNN's Andersen Cooper. The topic was the MTV reality show "The Osbournes."

2005 50 Cent became the first solo artist to have three singles in the US Top 5. ‘Candy Shop’ was at No.1 with ‘How We Do’ by The Game, (a member of his G-Unit group) at No.4 and ‘Disco Inferno’ at No.5.
