1960 The Miracles made their first TV appearance on "American Bandstand."

1961 Cubby Checker started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Pony Time', his second No.1 of the 60's. It reached No.27 in the UK.

1964 21 year-old former hairdresser and cloakroom attendant at The Cavern club Cilla Black was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Anyone Who Had A Heart.' Written by Bacharach and David it was Black's first UK No.1. Also this week's UK Top Ten was the first ever to feature only UK acts.

1965 Born on this day, David Boulter, keyboards, Tindersticks, (1993 album 'Tindersticks').

1965 The first date of a 21 twice- nightly UK package tour with Del Shannon, Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders and Herman's Hermits, at Sheffield's City Hall, England.

1967 Pink Floyd recorded their first single 'Arnold Layne', with producer Joe Boyd.

1970 Jefferson Airplane was fined $1,000 for using profanity during a concert in Oklahoma City.

1977 Keith Richards' Toronto hotel suite was raided by Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Richards was arrested and charged possession of heroin with the intent to traffic and possession of cocaine. He was release on $25,000 bail.

1980 Winners at the Grammy Awards included: song of the year, 'What A Fool Believes', The Doobie Brothers, album of the year, Billy Joel's '52nd St', best new artist, Rickie Lee Jones, best disco record, 'I Will Survive' Gloria Gaynor.

1984 A Pepsi commercial featuring the Jackson's premiered on MTV.

1988 George Michael scored his sixth No.1 US single with 'Father Figure' a No. 11 hit in the UK.

1990 Milli Vanilli's Rob Pilatus shared his perspective on life with Time magazine. In the interview he said, "Musically, we're more talented than any Bob Dylan or Paul McCartney. Mick Jagger can't produce a sound. I'm the new Elvis."

1991 James Brown was paroled from prison after serving two years. He had been sentenced to six years in prison after leading police on an interstate car chase.

1993 After 14 weeks at No.1 on the US singles chart, 'I Will Always Love You', gave Whitney Houston the longest ever US chart topper, taking over from Boyz II Men's hit 'End Of The Road', and became the second biggest selling single in the US.

1993 East 17 went to No.1 on the UK album chart with their debut LP 'Walthamstow.'

1994 Enigma went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'The Cross Of Changes.'

1997 James Brown asked talk show hostess Rolanda White to marry him during the taping of one of her shows. She didn't marry him.

1998 Tommy Lee was released on $500,000 bail after pleading innocent to the charge of abusing his wife and son.

1998 Vince Neil of Motley Crue announced an agreement with Internet Entertainment Group and Vivid Video to distribute a 60-minute home video of him having sex with two adult film models in Hawaii.

2000 ABC-TV aired the "The Beach Boys" TV movie.

2004 A worker in a supermarket in Aspen, Colorado alerted the police-after seeing a man shopping with his face covered by a mask. Police arrived on the scene and identified the man as Michael Jackson who was in town on holiday with his children.

2005 Manchester band Doves scored their second UK No.1 album when 'Some Cities' went to the top of the charts.

2005 Ray Charles was at No.1 on the US album chart with 'Genius Loves Company.'

2007 Bobby Brown was sentenced to 30 days in jail over $19,000 in unpaid child support. An arrest warrant was issued in October 2006 after he failed to show up at a hearing on overdue child support for Kim Ward, the mother of two of his children.

2007 Pictures appeared in UK papers of Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty making a trip to a zoo in Burford Oxfordshire with his model girlfriend Kate Moss. He was blasted by vets after pictures showed Pete throwing a left over cannabis joint into a group of penguins.
