1928 Blues Incorporated founder Alexis Korner born in Paris. His band saw performers like Jack Bruce, Charlie Watts, Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, and Eric Burdon pass through the ranks.

1942 Animals founder and keyboardist Alan Price born.

1944 Bernie Worrell, keyboards, Parliament, Funkadelic, (1978 US No.16 album 'One Nation Under A Groove').

1947 Mark Volman, The Turtles, (1967 US No.1 single 'Happy Together', 1967 UK No.4 single 'She'd Rather Be With Me'). Flo and Eddie, worked with Frank Zappa, T Rex, Bruce Springsteen.

1996 Legendary Bernard Edwards guitarist and producer from 'Chic', died in a Tokyo Hotel room after complaining that he was feeling ill

1993 Saxophonist Steve Douglas dies of heart failure in Los Angeles during a recording session with Ry Cooder. He was 55. As a session musician, he played on such hits as Da Doo Ron Ron and Be My Baby.

2002 Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) was found dead in his apartment.

2003 The oldest working musician in Britain Conrad Leonard died aged 104. Leonard had worked with Cole Porter, Petula Clark and the at the BBC during his career.

1956 Clyde McPhatter of the Drifters is released from the U.S. Armed Forces.

1960 No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: ``Stuck on You,'' Elvis Presley. The song is Presley's first to be released in stereo and his first since being released from the Army.

1998 Popular Italian singer Andrea Bocelli makes a firm move toward dedicating his career to opera when he performs for Bill and Hillary Clinton. Bocelli performs a concert of popular operatic arias with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

2000 Britain's Daily Express won the right from the Court of Appeal to keep their source a secret. Elton John had sued for the name of the source that had leaked information about his forthcoming action against PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

2000 Phil Collins won ?250,000 in a high court case over royalties with two former members of his band. The judge ruled that they had been overpaid in error but because the two musicians had no other income they would not have to pay it back.

2002 police were investigating how tracks from the forthcoming Oasis album 'Heathen Chemistry' had been illegally circulated on the Internet. They thought the person responsible had access to their private recording sessions.

2005 It was announced that two 30-second television commercials designed to attract vacationing families to Graceland to experience the "real" Elvis Presley would air nationally in the US starting in April 2006. It was the first time in the history of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. that the company has used television advertising to promote Graceland tourism.
