1953 Kim Gordon, bass, Sonic Youth, (1993 UK No.26 single 'Sugar Kane').

1955 Eddie Jobson, violin, Curved Air, (1971 UK No.4 single 'Back Street Luv'), Roxy Music, (1975 UK No.2 single 'Love Is The Drug').

1961 Roland Gift, actor and Fine Young Cannibal, is born.

1968 Daisy Berkowitz, Marilyn Manson, (1998 US No.1 album, 'Mechanical Animals', UK No. 12 single, 'The Dope Show'1998 UK No. 12 single, 'The Dope Show').

1968 Howard Donald, Take That, (1995 UK No.1 single 'Back For Good' and seven other UK No.1 singles, 1993 UK No.1 album 'Everything Changes spent 78 weeks on the UK chart). Re-formed without Robbie Williams in 2006 for a sold-out European tour. Topped the UK singles and album charts simultaneously for the first time in their career when the single ‘Patience’ and album ‘Beautiful World’ both reached No.1 in Dec 2006.

1973 Bigg Gipp (born Cameron Gipp), US rapper, member of Goodie Mob, features on the US No.1 single ‘Grillz’ by Nelly with Ali & Paul Wall.


Deaths
1975 Progressive radio pioneer Tom Donahue, from San Fran station KMPX, dies.

1980 Marshall Tucker Band bass player Tommy Caldwell died of injures from a car accident in his hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

1981 Steve Currie, former member of T Rex, was killed in a car accident.

1940 "Pennsylvania 6-5000," by Glenn Miller and his orchestra, was recorded.

1963 Andrew Loog Oldham, future Stones manager, sees the band for the first time performing at the Crawdaddy Club.

1964 The Beatles recorded the TV special ‘Around The Beatles’ at Wembley studios England. As well as performing songs they played Act V Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ with John playing the female role of Thisbe, Paul as Pyramus, George as Moonshine and Ringo as Lion. Paul later named his cat Thisbe.

1965 Barbara Streisand's first TV special aired on CBS. It was titled "My Name is Barbara".

1966 Dusty Springfield went to No.1 on the UK charts with her single 'You Don't have to say You Love Me'.

1966 The Kinks play the Mecca Ballroom, Nottingham,.

1968 The rock musical "Hair" opens on Broadway at the Biltmore Theater.

1973 Pink Floyd's album 'Dark Side Of The Moon went to No.1 in the US, it remained in the charts for a record breaking 741 weeks, selling over 20 million copies world-wide.

1973 The Faces had their debut UK No.1 album with 'Ooh La La' .

1978 Mike Oldfield played the first of two nights at London's Wembley Arena, England.

1979 Blondie had their first US No.1 single with 'Heart Of Glass', also No.1 in the UK.

1979 'The Very Best Of Leo Sayer' started a 3 week run at No.1 on the UK album chart. It was his first and only No.1 LP.

1981 At London's Wembley Stadium Gary Numan announces that this is his last concert.

1986 Joe Leeway leaves the Thompson Twins, making the band, officially, for the first time in their career, a duo. (Alannah Currie and Tom Bailey).

1987 On a plane that was returning to Boston, from Miami, Ozzy Osbourne bought three rounds of drinks and sang "Crazy Train" over the PA system.

1987 For the first time, a compact disc of an album was released before its vinyl version. The album was "The Art of Excellence" by Tony Bennett.

1989 Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley were married. They had been high school sweethearts.

1990 Guns N' Roses leader Axl Rose married Erin Everly, daughter of The Everly Brothers Don at Cupid's Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. They divorced in January 91 after a stormy nine months of marriage.

1990 Sinead O'Connor started a six-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.'

1991 Bonnie Raitt and Michael O'Keefe were married.

1994 California based Sleestacks release "Cobain's Dead" to the tume of the Smith's, "Girlfriend In A Coma".

1995 After a 3 year stage hiatus, the Beastie Boys begin a tour in California replete with the Carpet Compound where fans can interact with computers.

1997 Mark Morrison was fined 750 pounds after admitting threatening behaviour during an incident in Leicester City centre, UK.

1999 The tour bus carrying The Clint Boon Experience was involved in a near fatal accident when it was involved in a crash outside of Glasgow. Members of the band had to be airlifted to hospital.

1999 The Verve announced that the band members had mutually agreed to break up the band.

1999 Marilyn Manson walked off stage during a concert in Des Moines, Iowa, when he realized that someone had put a large yellow "smiley face" on a stage prop. 23 arrests were made in the aftermath.

1999 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

2000 A blaze swept through James Brown Enterprises, the office that co-ordinate the superstar's tours. Nobody was injured, but memorabilia and live tapes were destroyed in the blaze. An employee was later arrested charged with arson.

2002 Vince Neil allegedly attacked a record producer outside the Rainbow Room in West Hollywood. Neil pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge of battery on September 27, 2002.

2000 Paul Atkinson was jailed for three years after being found guilty of stealing more than 25,000 pounds from Rolling Stone Charlie Watts. Atkinson had been the manager of an Arabian stud farm owned by Watts.
