1940 Al Jarreau born in Milwaukee, WI.

1942 Jefferson Airplane's Paul Kantner is born in San Francisco.

1946 Liza Minnelli is born in Hollywood to Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli.

1955 Jazz Saxophonist Charlie Parker died of a heart attack in New York City while watching Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra on television. He was 34.

1998 English singer Judge Dread dies onstage in Canterbury after suffering a heart attack. He was 53.

1958 In Philadelphia, singer Billie Holiday is given a year's probation after pleading guilty to a 1956 charge of narcotics possession.
